By now you should be aware of the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti in recent weeks. We have a number of Camp Alvernia staff and campers who are from Haiti, including our very own Assistant Director, Badyr Aschkar.
What We’re Doing
Over the next month, the A-Way Team will be collecting t-shirts and shoes for the children of Haiti. On Monday March 15, we will have a big gathering here at Camp Alvernia where we’ll sort and box up what we’ve all collected. The gathering will go from 5-7pm.
How To Get Involved
1. RSVP by email to info@campalvernia.org. Let us know if you’ll be participating and if you’ll be able to make the gathering on March 15 from 5-7pm.
2. COLLECT new and gently used t-shirts and shoes in child sizes. Start with your own closet, then use these ideas for more:
- Set up a table at your school or church
- Reach out to friends and family
- Reach out to local businesses that print t-shirts or sell clothes/shoes
- Put an ad in your school paper or church bulletin with your contact information
- Have a t-shirt party of your own
3. BRING all the items you collect to the Camp Alvernia cafeteria on March 15. We’ll begin sorting and boxing at 5pm, have pizza together, then announce the collection totals and prize-winners.
What If I Can’t Make It March 15?
If you can’t make it to the t-shirt party on March 15, please drop off your donations at the camp office anytime on or before that date. We’ll make sure your donations are sorted and sent to Haiti as well.
God bless,
Ben Esposito
Director
